Dublin Street Views – The Port…

Yesterday I took a walk in the direction of Dublin Port. For those that know the area, I stood close to the East Link Toll… watching two ferries arriving. The ferries are rear loading/ unloading so the ship has to do a 180 turn right there in the river. I had the tripod with me so I could watch and occasionally push the shutter release…

The sum total of it all is that in less than 30 minutes after steaming into the port the tugs were returning to tie up… ferry secured at its birth. I was lucky to even get a freighter leaving… as well as a few other photos for artistic effect. I hope you enjoy the gallery. I have uploaded the photos in sequence do if you begin in the top left hand corner you can see the ship doing its pirouette. Minutes later I stood within 100 meters of one of the tugs doing its own 180… it literally took seconds to spin about on its own axis… more fun!

Sorry… looks like the gallery has taken on its own life… putting some of the photos where it wants to… sometime good help is hard to find…

Sorry too for the grey day… occasionally happens in Dublin in January…

Whatever the weather, I still think a harbour or port full of boats is the best place to be ever. :-)
Lovely pictures, I can almost hear the seagulls. :-D

I love ports, harbours and boats as well!! Canals? Yes… the sea-gulls… I had to duck at one point… if you look closely at the photos of the tugs returning to their berths you’ll see them flying formation with the boats… ;-)

  2. Looks like the perfect day. Water like a mirror. Here in SA one can’t get into harbour with cameras anymore.

The water was actually flowing relatively quickly but because the wind was down the water remained flat. I was actually outside the main port area… the convenience of having the port in a river mouth. One day I want to go right down to where the green entrance buoy in located and take a few photos back into the mouth of the river… more fun for another day! ;-)

I used to spend hours in the harbour in Vancouver with my dad as he worked on his boat. Sometimes I would take the rowboat and go out into the harbour, although not too far. I could never out-row a freighter. Thanks for bring back some memories for me!

That happens on the odd occasion… we had a fair share again last evening. In fact, I only just made it to the station without getting wet… ;-)
