Today I’m beginning a few posts about a set of events and their impact on our lives… an impact we will never forget! We are the lucky ones… the good lady and I, to be able to bring you this story. Why us? How did we arrive at this blessing? A long, often torturous, uneasy and rocky path we had to walk to arrive at this point.
A lot I’m saying in the introduction. Yes… soon we’ll be entering our 13th year in Ireland. That gives you an idea of the length of the walk. But, for today I’m only going share with you one of the most momentous events that has happened in our near ellipse. An event that would never have affected our lives if it had not been predestined to happen, of that I am fundamentally sure.
OK… I already sense some of you raising an eyebrow. Predestined? Yes. Keep reading, I have much to say. This event has caused all sorts of emotions to well up within our lives. The good lady and my life, that is. I don’t want to talk for anyone else. The event has not happened to us… yet, when we first became aware of who actually was involved we were rather astounded… and simply put, overjoyed for the family.
But… the very thought of it being true immediately raised a few questions. Why now? What if? Why couldn’t it have been different? Why does life seem so cruel at times? Why does this happen to folk who must be asking the same questions of themselves?
Questions… questions… and more questions. We became aware of the story on Christmas day. Well, of the supposed details of who were involved in this great Christmas tale. We did not want to make immediate contact but I did nag the good lady to ask the question on the dreaded FB. At a suitable time… when the dust had settled sufficiently for me to request that we may have the privilege of breaking the news to you out there… around the world.
OK… I’ll put you out of your misery… by asking a few questions…
- Who of you know millionaires? I’ve shaken the hand of a few… they used to be quite abundant in Ireland before the crash. At least 3 of our previous landlords were ’property’ millionaires… at least! The company I now work for boasted a few… in their previous guise, before they were gobbled up by the larger entity. OK… that makes at least 6 I know. There were a few in the property business… a few consultants… a few recruitment bosses… a few long-term blue chip multi-national stock holders. You get the picture?
- Now for the crux question… who of you actually know a LOTTO Millionaire? Yes… it happens! Yes… before this I knew someone who knows a Lotto Millionaire… but now we also know a Lotto Millionaire.
That’s where the ‘Blessed and Privileged’ title originated. The very fortunate lady granted us the permission to go public with her name! Us? Blessed? YES!!
I’ll answer the questions in due course… it may require a few posts to get to the bottom of the story for me. My story… our story and how it has inexorably been intertwined with the tale of the Lotto Millionaire. Why so dramatic? Predestination… that’s why. I cannot tell you how many thoughts, ideas and emotions have milled, churned and tumbled in my inner being.
In the opening sentence I used the words ‘a set of events’. OK, let me begin with the latest event in the chain and then work my way back… in so doing I will, in my own way, answer some of the questions I have posed.
Susan won the lotto, I say again, Susan won the Lotto!
What? Yes… on about the 15th of December someone purchased a ticket at the Big T in Maynooth… a quick pick, to the value of € 20. That is common knowledge by now… even the Liffey Champion, the local paper, carried a story. But what they were not permitted to publish was the name of the recipient of this magnificent windfall. Magnificent? Yes… € 4.65 MILLION! Now, how’s that for a return on investment?
OK… why did Susan give us the privilege of going public? Because our tales have become intertwined, of that I am now certain. Because out of all of this has come an overwhelming urge to tell you how that intertwining began and developed and how I see the possibilities for a very bright future for Susan and her immediate family. But… their bright future can and will impact the lives of so many in a very positive manner. Of that I am as convinced as the fact that I’ve been allowed to write this post and the others that will follow.
Why? Simply put… I am humbled at the thought of sharing a very powerful story with you. A story that has been in the making all this while… all the while we’ve been in Ireland. Why again?
Susan is Mick the Barber’s sister. Yes… you hear me right. Yes! Susan and her family have been truly blessed. That’s why some of the questions I asked earlier on have been milling in my mind. Some of the ideas I would like to postulate in the coming days may appear slightly strange at first but if you’ll allow me to tell it my way, truthfully and honestly, then I hope you’ll see where I believe the future can lead.
Bear with me… I only hope Susan will feel the desire to allow me to divulge some of the information I wish to share with her before posting anything.
Lastly, for this post that is… we are thrilled with your fortune! We are also thrilled to be blessed by your kindness, Susan… trust me, being able to tell this tale may well be the very reason I got into blogging in the first place… predestination? Not only do I believe so… I’m prepared to place my credibility on the line over the next few days in explaining where I come from…
Thank you Susan! God bless you for your kindness… cheeky as it may seem, I know… but none-the-less… God bless you!
