Payday Blues

There ain’t no pain like the payday blues
Makes a man wanna grab a jar of booze

There ain’t no pain like the payday blues
Makes a man wanna grab a jar of booze
Don’t you say I’ve no right a drink to choose
Until you’ve walked a mile in my tatty shoes

There ain’t no pain like the payday blues
Makes a man wanna grab a jar of booze

Thought’s of more month than there’s money
Ceases to be in the slightest remotely funny
Outlook’s oft more bleak than mildly sunny
In this constant search for life’s pot of honey

There ain’t no pain like the payday blues
Makes a man wanna grab a jar of booze

Memories of a life in a distant, easier past
They’re fading all too quickly, all too fast
The dole cue’s promise long shadows cast
When you’re yearning really to have a blast

There ain’t no pain like the payday blues
Makes a man wanna grab a jar of booze

Dreams of sitting again on some sunny beach
Seem forever totally out of our wishful reach
Listen to politicians, the trade unions preach
No cream to be had this year, nor any peach

There ain’t no pain like the payday blues
Makes a man wanna grab a jar of booze

Month after month… the joy of the payday blues
After all these years have we not paid our dues?
Resting time, yearning the peaceful sunshine snooze
Or even better, the extended warmth of a Med cruise

There ain’t no pain like the payday blues
Yeah man… we’ve paid more than our dues

Working all these years of paid slavery and toil
Thought’s of the travesty makes the blood boil
Life’s ambitions for success the bosses do spoil
For what? My ashes to scatter on bare, cold soil?

There ain’t no pain like the payday blues
Yeah man… we’ve paid more than our dues

Hopes and dreams reserved for you and me
Of the yoke of the Dollar and Euro to be free
In my mind’s eye the celebrations I clearly see
On that day our hearts will be filled with glee

There ain’t no joy like the frivolities at month-end
When the payday blues we blissfully transcend!

  2. Payday to me is the day before I don’t have any money anymore.

I value your 'likes' and comments, even though I don't always reciprocate, I care. Thanks for making the effort! God Bless!!
