Dublin 360 – Tall Ships Begins…

Today the party starts and judging from my stroll down the quays yesterday afternoon it is gearing up to being a great celebration. All and sundry have been preparing… the city is abuzz… the inland waterways folk have been gathering from near and far.

Boats in GCD, DublinYesterday’s pic of the Grand Canal Dock inner basin reminds of the posts a few months ago when the IWAI Dublin Rally in full swing. The only difference? I think there may well be a few more boats in the basin this time round! Fantastic… or, should that be GRAND!!

East Link Lifting BridgeThe East Link Bridge has been busy… lifting to allow all the boats in… unfortunately I haven’t been able to get a tall ship passing through… I’ll keep looking though. I missed this lady passing the bridge but was lucky enough to catch a glimpse of her doing a U-turn… a few cations spring to mind…

Tall Ship on the Liffey, Dublin“Yes dear… that little fella with the big green hat said he lives somewhere up that lane…” or… comment to the driver… “Follow that car Paddy… he’s off to the Guinness Warehouse… “

U-turn on the Liffey, Tall Ships 2012But then… when the driver fella did the unthinkable… the comments went something like this… “Left dear! I said turn left!”

Dublin Tall Ships 2012After work I strolled down to the Liffey… the draw was just too great… boats, ships… masts… sunlight, the presence of all these beautiful vessels are sure going to pull the crowds in this weekend!

Dublin Tall Ships 2012Masts everywhere… beauty everywhere…

Dublin Tall Ships 2012Imagine your average shopping mall parking lot looking like this!! So? What will you be doing these next few days? Need any info?

Dublin Tall Ships 2012Or? Just for fun… another look at a few more of the lovely ladies…

Hi AJ, Stick an app called “marine traffic” on your android phone and you see the location and movement of all the ships as they enter/leave Dublin … /M

I really like those tall ships. What an amusing sight to look out a window and see the mast as it turns in the tight canal.
