I want to start today’s post by saying thanks you to all the kind folk who commented on Monday’s post ‘Revulsion and Shame.’ One thing is apparent… there are many folk who care. I further like to point out that there is a lot of reading material out on the web. Much of the information can be taken with a pinch of salt.
It seems to me that the two sides of the fence are each playing around with figures… it seems rather too obvious that the SA government are not reflecting true statistics. They have far too much blood on their hands to want the rest of the world to know the real facts. On the other side of the divide are the folk who are also trying to gain recognition by attempting to further discredit the SA Police Services and the lawmakers.
I’m no specialist. What I am is a very concerned South African who wants to let the world know how dire the situation really is. Murder and rape are almost institutionalised in South Africa. Please click here to have a look at seemingly ‘official’ figures showing the statistics of the last 10 years. If you flick between the pages you get some idea of how rife murder, rape and violent crimes are in the country.
Please click here to see how an inefficient, corrupt government is turning more and more to the police to do the dirty work for them. This site seems quite neutral in it’s reporting so, reading their contributions are a little more acceptable.
I am again left stunned by how the media works. Oscar Pistorious, the ‘Blade Runner’ is a legend around the world. The tragedy that played out yesterday at his home is receiving mass coverage here in Ireland and the UK, so, I assume it will also be getting lots of mileage around the world. I’m already wondering how much political posturing there will be, how much grandstanding, how many news conferences will be called during the trial? Yet, that poor girl who was so horrifically raped, mutilated and killed less that 2 weeks ago is all but forgotten. Like so many other hapless, innocent victims.
So what can I do? I can plead with you to re-blog my posts. I can plead with you to take simple steps, like those suggested by Diane in the comment, send a letter to your UN reps… we will need the help of international leaders to force the world to admit they’ve been allowing a rolling, low-key genocide to perpetuate in South Africa. I’ll include below the simple definition of genocide, you can decide for yourself if, when considering all the hate crimes against women and farmers, I am too liberal with my opinions…
The International Convention for the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide defines “genocide.”
“In the present Convention, genocide means any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, as such:
(a) Killing members of the group;
(b) Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group;
(c) Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part;
(d) Imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group;
(e) Forcibly transferring children of the group to another group.”
The links below offer much food for thought… much to consider. I have been known to say, quite often, that South Africa was justifiably punished for apartheid but since the new ‘freedom’ the world has turning a blind eye on what is really happening… far worse atrocities are being committed far more often, affecting far more innocent folk!
Please… I beg you… please pass on the message… if that’s all you do then it is a seriously positive step!
PLEASE HELP SAVE SOUTH AFRICA!
