Foreshadow – WPhotoC

Foreshadowing is an advance sign or warning of what is to come in the future. The author of a mystery novel might use foreshadowing in the early chapter of his book to give readers an inkling of an impending murder.

A bit harsh maybe but I wanted to ensure I didn’t get myself lost in translation so I did what all inquisitive bloggers do… searched the net and this definition grabbed my liking the most. However, I’m of the opinion one can’t just borrow a snippet off the net and throw a few photos on the page and walk away… trying to convince the wise folk out there that the challenge has been met. One has to at least offer up something meaningful, does one not?

Forewarning of the storm in the night! Co Kildare, Ireland summer 2013 sunsetIndeed… meaningful it must be. But why all the questions and dithering? Krista’s challenge this week shows a menacing storm cloud… foreshadowing the drama to come. Our Irish summer has also added its own drama. For the first time in years we’ve actually celebrated a warm, dry spell that had everyone rejoicing in the eventual arrival of something resembling a real summer. There were folk talking about this summer being the best since 1986… some even went as far back as the 1970’s to find equals.

What's coming now?? Yes, a thunderstorm!Yes… this spell of heat should have been the forewarning of things to come… as should the snow in April have reminded folk that we may be in for quite an eventful summer. No, I’m not going to give you any snow photos… I don’t want to chase away any chances of more warm, sunny weather!

The foreboding colours of an approaching storm... great!OK… back to the practicalities of the heat wave. The sun seemed to have sucked all the moisture from the ground so when the clouds eventually arrived strange convection currents emanating from the parched soil seemed to suck in reverse… causing quite spectacular stormy weather. I can’t recall seeing so many thunderheads and lashing storms, day after day for more than a weeks we’ve been having light and sound shows. Fantastic!

Light shows and visual splendour of the storms! All this thunder activity should’ve been a foreshadowing for you kind folk out there… so many photo opportunities… sooner or later I was bound to do a cloud post! One thing I’m still striving for? To capture my first lightning photos!

PS – I robbed the opening definition here… thanks.

Not too violently though… can you imagine the foreboding of that? Another white Christmas? 😉
