Travel Theme: Industry

This week, Ailsa throws a bit of work at us… industry! There’s a few different lines of attack I could follow with this one. talking of lines… how about beginning with the fishing industry? How about the lads as seen on Howth’s West Pier…

Howth village as seen from the West Pier, across the harbour... seagull territory!

Then… we travel a little further south, down the coast, in the direction where I believe Ailsa may live when she’s  not gallivanting abroad. There’s this neglected old pointer to the past… the grand kids have named it Willy Wonker’s Chocolate Factory. Amazing what happens in little folk’s imaginations!!

Willy's place.. down Arklow way...

Last but not least. The canals in Ireland had a massive impact on industry. The construction of the Grand and Royal Canals began as far back as the late 1700’s. I’ve been digging through the archives of late and found a few pics of the Rambler on the Royal Canal. She’s a special barge. She was built somewhere in the 1860’s, if I can remember correctly. Not just built for any old reason but specifically to serve as a steam tug on the Royal Canal. Some history, when you stop to delve into the roots of industry!

Sunday afternoon bliss! The Rambler makes her way along Ireland's Royal Canal

Ailsa always ends her posts with a few quotes and an invite to contribute. So, I’ll do the same… only, I’ll leave you with one of AJ’s own, the very one AJ left for her!

We shall endeavour to endeavour… industriously!
