Take Off!

I’ve set myself a small chore… to go for a long(ish) daily walk. The Royal Canal’s tow-path can’t be beaten… no cars or trucks to duck or dodge. Green landscape and even a bit of wildlife to enjoy. Yesterday this heron stayed put until I was almost on top of it. Then it took-off while I snapped away…

Heron take-off...

  3. Great picture. The great blue herons have the biggest wing spans.

Brilliant photo! My local reedbed pond had 8 grey herons together in a tree recently. There is a heronry nearby! Whereabout are you?

You’re a lucky fella to have that many. I’ve only ever seen large groups in 2 places, Phoenix Park and Carton House in Maynooth. I’m out North Kildare way… Kilcock, to be more exact. There seem to be less around the area along the canal… maybe they’re having a rough time after the bad summer!!

I value your 'likes' and comments, even though I don't always reciprocate, I care. Thanks for making the effort! God Bless!!
