I’m a massive WordPress fan. I’ve been using the platform for way more than 4.5 years and because I upload photos daily I can run out of space. So, for the last number of years I have purchased an additional 10 Gigs per year. This is great… until you upgrade your camera and forget that each time you upload a photo it’s file size has substantially increased.
My woes began, rather suddenly, when I was trying to upload yesterday’s photo. No room??? What?? I tried again… thinking incorrectly that the router was messing again. No, I’d actually run out of space… six months away from my annual 10 Gig due date! I had to scale down the quality of yesterday’s photo to get it uploaded… and it shows!!
So… what do I do? Upgraded again to a full site for €79? Sounds like a plan as this is something I’ve wanted to do for quite some time. Only thing… when you’ve been out of work for more than 4 months that’s not money to be taking out of the weekly budget, especially since just the day before you had to pay to get the car through its annual road test!
So… what do I do? I went back a year and attempted to decease the size of the photos. To little avail! No… to keep going I have to consider posting for a while without photos or, mercy me, I have to go and delete past images. Needless to say… I’m stewing in my own pickling juices.
The moral of the story? Load lightly and keep an eye on your available storage space! I hope my warning is helpful to others… don’t get caught on the hop… or even worse… with your pants down!
I went off to see if I could get a shot or two at the possible meteor shower… alas, the Irish weather had other ideas. However, I did get a momentary flash of a chopper rushing through!!

Aaaah the tech… I’m actually sitting and trying out some of the other suggestions… with little (or no) success!! Drat!! 🙄

Here’s my logic: for six more months of ‘carefree blogging’, when you divide out extra expense per month… maybe less self-indulgent than it seems?? I know all about the financial woes of jobless life but sometimes you have to weigh up pros/cons and come out on the happy side. For you. 🙂

Just a thought, have you tried uploading your photos to spare space on one of your other sites and inserting the picture on ombh from there?

Try reducing the resolution and image size of your photos to maximize your photo storage. Sometimes we upload a full resolution pic when perhaps 75% would do.

In future that is what I will do… thanks! My problem is lasting long enough before I get the upgrade! I’ll have to go back and reload many photos… or, as Sallyann suggests, use a proxy site… 😛
