April A to Z – Vinyl and Vapour Trails

Yep… vinyl and vapour trails. Why? Because I like to ring of it. It hatched when I had one of those lightning bolt moments. You know the ones. I was pondering this post while I was outside doing my bit for the abstract challenge. I was thinking of the vinyl. Then, I looked up and noticed the planes dashing across the blue sky… leaving their vapour trails behind.

That’s how this post evolved… vinyl and vapour trails! It has a ring about it… but, I think I may have said that earlier. I was going to use the vinyl for the “M” post. M for Music which then turned into M for Memories. That meant I still had a pile of records just waiting to be shown to the outside world.

As you may well know… the stuff can’t just lay in the bottom of the press forever… they must eventually be outed. The only thing… I have far more flat plastic discs than I can use in one post so here’s a sneak-peek look into the future… maybe next year’s V will again be for vinyl! OK… I’ve been totally random with my selection but I’m sure you may spot something to reminisce about.

The beauty of vinyl was that you could open up the gate-fold covers and dream away while you listen to Side A. Then Side B. Triple LP’s took on their own lives. Hours of lying flat on the back… head positioned somewhere in the middle of the sound wave and then just letting the music wash over you. Yep, I think it’s time I did a hi-fi upgrade… the vinyl has been in hiding far too long!

PS – I have a dream… to be a late night DJ, one day… when I grow up!

You know they say vinyl is on its way back. I have that Yellow Brick Road album from Elton John too!

I’ve got all my old vinyl – it sounds so much better than digital! I think that vinyl wallpaper would be wonderful in blue with vapour trails across it… ~Liz http://www.lizbrownleepoet.com

Thanks for swinging around! I could always volunteer to care for your lonely vinyl… I have a plan! You’ll have to teach me how to make wallpapers! Especially wallpapers with vapour trails across! 😀

  4. I still have a stack of vinyl albums in the bottom of the bookcase. I just can’t seem to part with them even though I have nothing to play them on.

Makes me think back to those times when life was as simple as sometimes lying on your back and just listening to music. One day when I grow up I’d like to have a room in the house where I can do just that!

Yes… life was sort of cool… and maybe when we grow up we can do the real thing! I’ll play the music and you lie on your back and listen there on your side of the world! 😉 The internet is a great thing!! 😀

Oh my. Some blasts from the past in this post AJ. I haven’t thought of some of these albums in years. And the joy of seeing Yes artwork again. Vinyl is our youth. I have a collection in a storage unit in London. I just couldn’t get rid of them, even though I haven’t played vinyl in 15 years and favourites are on my iTunes account. Thanks for the memories. I’m going off to listen to some old music now 🙂

Enjoy listening!! I’ll tell you what… I’ll go over to London and rescue that vinyl… here they will have a great, loving home. Just think how loved they’ll feel compared to a cold, clammy lock-up! So glad someone recognised the Yes covers… I snuck the in as a teaser! 😉

They would feel loved. Before the storage unit they were out in our garage for years. I don’t even know if they’d actually play. Keeping them is a nostalgic decision, not a logical one.

  10. Great pics! It pained me when I gave up my albums… I was moving to the other side of the world and couldn’t justify keeping them. My Dark Side of the Moon album was pristine and complete with poster – sold it for a song. 😦

I will drag my LP’s with me wherever I go! I have two children who will kill me if I give them away!! 😉 Well, they want to inherit them so maybe that a means to an end! 😀

Is daar nie ‘n Arikaanse spreekword “om in die wolke te wees” wat beteken day jy baie bly of gelukkig voel nie? Die lyk my beide musiek en vliegtuie laat jou op ‘n wolkie rondgly 😀

  12. The Dark side of the Moon makes another appearance following our chit-chat on my blog last Saturday! My most treasured vinyl is a first day mono copy of Sargent Pepper which I queued for outside HMV in Oxford Street London at the crack of dawn on June 1st 1967!
