Introspection – Life’s Mirror?

OK… I’m on the warpath, again! I wrote a LinkedIn post on Saturday… all about the evils of the cholesterol statin drugs. So… what has that to do with introspection? LOTS! Today, while some of you read this post, I’ll be in a hospital again… like I was last Monday and Tuesday… and the Friday before that. That’s where introspection comes into the picture. We have to look at ourselves in life’s mirror… and assess where we’re going and why we’ve chosen the paths we tread.

I won’t share the whole LI post here (click here to read it) but I will leave you with a few of the thoughts I shared…

This post is just a reminder, we’re responsible for our own health and wellness, take care what you chuck into your body, even if you think your GP has the answers. Get a second opinion… or, simply read the literature supplied with the drugs you ingest. The manufacturers warn you of the dangers, sometimes giving odds as high as one in ten who could suffer side effects!

I’ve said it before… if I had odds that high of winning a big lottery, or finding the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, I’d spend a whole lot of time, effort, energy and money in investing in said lottery… or chasing rainbows! Who knows, the leprechaun you find there may have the elixir of life as well!

An Irish Sea rainbow... as seen from the train along the Wicklow coast...

Hi. I so agree. I stopped taking statins about 3 years ago because I was having serious brain fog. I have felt so much better since I stopped. I am amazed how many doctors prescribe them as a preventative drug rather than just to only those who have serious lipid problems. I keep wondering how many elderly people on statins developed dementia after they started to take statins that they often didn’t need. I know I was worried about my own mind for a while. Hope you are feeling better. I will have to read your string of posts.

So I’ve been through your labyrinth of links, hoovering up each piece you wrote and with increasing horror and rage. Of course I send you good wishes and hope that you are improving but mostly I send you real sympathy for the anger you quite naturally feel …. In Doctors we trust but Increasingly those doctors are paid pawns of a corrupt pharmaceutical industry and our trust can leave us, like you, far worse off than we started.

  5. Met so ‘n positiewe gees sal jy sommer gou gesond word. As jy die leprechaun kry, vra hom asb om sommer na my kinders daar in Kilkenny ook om te sien?

Sorry to hear you have been in hospital. Hope you’re fully better soon. I agree doctors are too ready to prescribe drugs without thinking or discussion – I have had a couple of my own experiences including reaction to penicillin that I picked up and the doctors didn’t!!!!

I fear I have many more visits lined up to the hospitals… my wife’s fridge magnets have a real job holding up all the appointment letters!!
I hope your reaction hasn’t left permanent damage! I must say… I walk into the doctor’s rooms well armed with research now… the Big G is a wonderful thing!! 😉

Hope you feel better soon! Our ABC did a show about the negative impact of statins a year or so ago. They (the people who did the program) were attacked from every angle and there has been lots of pressure to ignore their findings. Take care!
