Tree

Once in a blue moon I do the Daily Prompt… for the fun. I couldn’t resist yesterdays… I mean… tree! How could I walk by a tree and not think of showing the whole wide world it’s beauty. The problem would then be that I would be posting for the rest of my life. Trees and I have a liking for each other!

So, I had to find something slightly different. How would you like living in an old oak tree? I would love to! So… when I passed by this old beauty the buzzing warned me that there was much life happening in that trunk. Spot the bees? Yep… I had to do a long distance shot… yes, I’m allergic!

The old oak trunk... the bees have found a grand home!!!

When my father died the florist asked my mother what flowers he liked so that she could do something appropriate for the coffin. My mother rang me and said ‘I just don’t know what to say to her – I mean, we can hardly ask for a tree, can we and he didn’t approve of Bonsai!’ My love of trees stems from him. And I loved this piece and your fabulous picture.

Yes… we share the love of trees (I think I commented on your tree page) May I be quizzy and ask what your solution was?
I have asked that my ashes be scattered in Delville Wood, the South African War Memorial in the Somme.
I want to rest among the trees that grew back after WWl… among my fellow countrymen’s ghosts! And those of the other nations who died there in vain! Sad…

Yes, we had her make a wreathe that was predominantly foliage with a few garden flowers intwined. It was very lovely. He was cremated and my mother and I took his ashes to a hill he loved and scattered him amongst some birch trees. Just before I moved to France I went and cut a piece from a branch that had fallen and out of it I have made candle holders. YOur resting place is a wonderful choice – when the time comes you will be in good company and I imagine the fallen will have a few choice words about war and its utter futility!

          Beautiful!
Yes… I want to “talk” with them… from all sides! I served my country for sixteen odd years… and for what?
I began writing a short story about a bridge game in a bomb crater – the unseen friends playing a game. One South African, one German, (partners) one Scotsman and an Irishman.
I was the eavesdropper… I need to complete that tale…

You do need to complete that tale … I would love to read it. I’m presently occupied proof-reading a thesis by a young friend of mine about the mass evacuation that occured in Alsace and Moselle in 1939. It’s quite shocking. All of it is quite shocking and we never ruddy well learn. 16 years of nothing – no. Be proud sir. YOu have every right. Not for governments but for the common men and women you served for you should be proud.

Really! If you want to go hugging trees, come to KZN. You won’t find any bees or poison ivy to disturb your inner peace. Just make sure there are no boomslangs (WHO created this word?) resting amongst the leaves.
