So it begins. That happy time of the year when we all indulge in memory sharing!
My month’s A to Z gets underway with one of those great classic live shows. Dire Straits was really at the top of the mountain. I recall having to wait impatiently for payday to roll around so I could get my copy of the imported double live LP. So, to get the month’s show on the road I’ll remind you of the piece that first got Mark Knopfler and Dire Straits noticed.
I’ve mentioned that the song Brothers in Arms holds special meaning for me. This live show was recorded in the year that I did my Flight Engineer’s course so the last song from this show has special meaning too. My mind always returns to the days of operational tours of the Eighties… and why this song still holds a special value!
A quick reminder… I’ll be back on Monday with the next instalment. B for? This is where you stand a chance of winning. Yes, you can earn yourself a self-inflicted pat on the back if you guess who/ what or where the B in B will be! A country in its infancy… a crisis… and a group of willing lads, they got together… the rest, as they say in the classics, is history!
OK… I’ll go now… but not before again sharing a photo from my air force days…
The stains are authentic… this is a copy of the slightly water damaged original that will hopefully hang in my pub one day… Alo 111 620 hovers near Cape Recife Lighthouse (Port Elizabeth, South Africa) photo taken 29 May, 1990
Great choice! I have fond memories of listening to my brother’s Dire Straits CDs when I was little. (I was born in 1980, but I’ve always enjoyed music!) Great photo – you must have had an exciting career.

Thanks Ruth! I’ve been a bit tardy in visiting you blog! Apologies! I think you’ve been close to your vinyl lately! Mind you… my offer still stands! I’ll happily rescue them from the isolation of the lock-up! 😉

AJ, we emptied the storage unit a couple of weeks ago and sold all our old music, Cd’s and vinyl. They’ll go to a new home and we got some money. But oh the memories 🙂
