When that wild one Ophelia swept through here a month or so ago she really threw stuff around and caused seemingly immovable objects to jump about! Here’s a photo, taken some months ago, showing the old marker beacon located at the end of the Cove’s rock breakwater. (Note… bold nanny and naughty grandchild tossing rocks into the water! I’d say the beacon is now about exactly where that splash was then!)
Now… here’s a photo taken the other evening… see the marker? It has retreated at least 50 meters and now stands guard above the spring low-tide mark! I’d venture a guess that the base of the marker could easily weigh more than a half metric ton! Seems Ophelia had no trouble tossing the offensive orange pointer off the end of the breakwater!
PS – It just so happens to be that lad’s birthday today… how serendipitous!
