Tuesday Tunes – Melodic Eclectic…

When I started the Tuesday Tunes, I promised I would share old and new music as well as music by modern bands or musicians. A week or so ago I left a comment over at an earwig post done by Hester … sharing one of today’s songs because as much as I listen to it, I don’t mind listening again… and again! But this song reminds me of a much older song… which I first got to know in the early 2000’s. It’s not a one hit wonder but it is one of the few commercial songs produced by Queensryche and played by mainstream rock radio…

OK… so… there you have it… a peaceful, gentle intro to this week’s show.

Before I go any further, I have to state that I hardly ever listen to local music radio. The one and only rock radio we have in the greater Dublin area used to be on all the time… but in the last few years the DJ’s have become a tad too full of themselves… the blasphemy and one-sided opinion just got the better of me. Now, you may ask, how do you liven up your music?

Easy… CD’s… vinyl… my collection is growing all the time! However, I need to say this and say it more often. I was fortunate enough to grow up in South Africa when we had Rock DJ’s of the calibre of Chris Prior! I was also fortunate enough to discover a few years ago that The Rock Professor does a weekly podcast. I assure you… there are thousands of us around the globe who wait impatiently for Thursday night to roll around! Not only did The Prof educate me in my young days… he is still doing so today! How else do you think I will ever get to hear new music?

So… to keep in tune with the melodic theme today… why don’t I include a song from the kings of melodic rock? Here’s a song from the days when folk used to wander about on their own personalised clouds… of vapours… and… and… whatever! Yes… the gurus knew… it matters not what they knew… they just knew!

OK… now, back to the earwig song. This is also my long song for the day. Cosmic Symphony by Flying Colors. This is a band I would never have heard of if it wasn’t for Chris Prior’s education. Yep… I don’t think any mainstream radio would play a song of this length… or magnitude! Mind you… this is a song comprising three distinct segments so I suppose they could play one on its own… if they ever found the will!

OK… here’s the link to Chris Prior’s latest podcast… just do yourself a favour… do! (I download the podcasts… and have a memory stick full of assorted music in the car! Never do I need to listen to commercial shite… ever again!)

So… here’s a melodic image to go with the restive music… enjoy!

PS – Remember, Nellie calls around again tomorrow at noon, Irish time… and she’s up to a whole lot of mischief!

Nogal ‘n hoogs inligtinggewende inskrywing oor al die soorte musiek, wat jy luister. Ek neig meer na die klassieke musiekkant, maar leer hier by jou van ander style. Lekker dag AJ!

Glo my vry… ek wardeer jou lees en kommentaar.
Lekker pret! 😉
