Motoring Mono Monday!

Motoring Mono Monday! Yep… I’ve long wanted to place a few of these photos. Have you ever tried to get snaps off at a hummingbird hawk moth? (Do click here to read an article on BirdWatchIreland’s site about the moths getting mistaken for real hummingbirds!)

OK… back to the moths. They move fast… and they hum, yes… their wing-beats are so rapid that they actually hum. You often hear them well before you see them. Then the fun begins… trying to get photos that look half presentable. Apparently, these moths are migrant visitors to Ireland so spotting them in the first place is a thrill… and getting proof is a bigger thrill! So… as usual, I’ll leave it up to you to decide if the B&W works better than the colour…

Happy Monday – remember… Uncle Santi is slowly but surely starting to rev up the sled… and he’s feeding those jumping goats kryptonite carrots… or whatever, that stuff is that makes them fart flames… and fly fast! So, the moral of the story? Don’t set this week’s goals too high… it’s not really worth the effort – have fun… be good!

Wow great photo. We had one two summers ago but as you say it is next to impossible to get good shot but you have triumphed! Well done!
