Life Diary, Day 20 – Dinsdag Dinge – A Man’s Castle…

Here’s an advert that many South Africans may recall – for a few reasons. Firstly, Toto’s song Africa stood the test of time… something also claimed by the brewers of the beer. Sorry, did I say THE beer? I mean… no self-respecting South African beer drinker would dare suggest one drinks any beer but Castle Lager… the taste that’s stood the test of time… or, so they claimed!

OK… so… as adverts go, this one has stuck in my head… because I’ve often wondered it people actually do find Castle Lager in New Your… so, if you know, please pass on the information… someone I know is asking… they too, want to enjoy a Castle on a New York rooftop!

So… that advert only gave you just over a minute’s worth of the music. I can’t really let you go off without sharing the full song, can I? (Just in case you’re wondering about the song’s popularity… seems it’s had way over 520 views… that’s 520 MILLION views!)

Mmm… Africa… not the place depicted in the video… I promise! A place of wild beauty and untold happiness… and also wild, unrelenting suffering and sadness. For today, we’ll concentrate on the beauty. I’ll dredge up a few copied old photos from years gone by…

OK… you watch this space… we’ll see if we can get a photo of the fellow having his beer on a roof in NYC!

PS – Apologies to my non South African friends… I know the post is really aimed at a very narrow audience… but, all will become apparent… later in the week, I promise!
