Last Friday we took a quick drive to Avoca – a picturesque village in the renowned Vale of Avoca. A beautiful part of Co Wicklow. Some years ago an effort was made to reestablish a colony of red kites to what was once their natural home. I believe there were initial setbacks but judging from this photo the population is thriving! I love watching these birds. We occasionally see one or two in our area but to see this aerial spectacle was special! I’m thinking we need to go back to see more… very soon!

Wow! Think 6 in one sighting and 15 over a 10 mile drive are my most. They were reintroduced I think in Harewood and are a daily sight for us here in Harrogate.
