Greystones to Bray – Cliff Walk

Saturday gone by I went for a walk. I’ve been keen to do the Greystones to Bray cliff walk as suggested by quite a few folk. I kept a close eye on the weather as I didn’t want to get caught out in the middle of nowhere by a sudden icy downpour. Strong southerly winds were predicted, thus a walk with the wind was planned. A good plan indeed as the wind really assisted on the assent leg out of Greystones.

There goes the train... as seen from the cliff walk between Greystones and Bray, Co Wicklow, Ireland

My time is a tad limited so I can’t yet put together a gallery of the complete walk but for now I’ll leave you with this photo taken from way above the rail line. I was on that line only a few hours earlier and at that point I had no idea the path was actually so far above the tracks.

Have a closer look… you’ll see both ends of the train… a bit like an earthworm weaving its way in and out of its burrows…

PS – The vertical line of odd-shaped white dots to the left of the lower end of the train is actually sea spray foam… the updraft was so strong in places that I was getting sprayed up where I stood…

I really like this photo and spent a while looking at it 🙂 The timing you had to get both ends of the train is great!. I wonder would my phone work for things like this.

Hi Tommy, thanks for your comment. The trains run quite regularly… every hour or so in either direction so I’m sure you can plan to be in the area and then just wait. I would think you could give it a try with a phone… just don’t know if you’ll get the depth of field.

Here’s a link to Saturday’s Bray/ Greystones return timetable. The train I managed to get was from bray so that’s the back end you see… it would be better to het the return from Greystones… then you’ll most likely get the headlights…

Hope you have fun train chasing!! 😉

It is a tad high. In two places I was actually leaning against the fence or wall. The thought did cross my mind that if the wire strand snapped I would be heading downward rather rapidly! 😉 Thankfully I’m still here to tell the tale! 😀
